Let’s Look: Sunday Reset
Hello,
I’m excited to join Shay from Mix and Match Mama and Erika from A Little Bit of Everything’s link party for “Let’s Look”. I love that these topics are a glimpse into our normal, everyday life and it’ll be so much fun to look back years from now and remember what we were up to!
This month the focus is on Sunday Reset. Spoiler, we don’t really do a “Sunday” reset other than making sure Arnis has a clean naptime blanket for preschool and dropping off the compost at the farmer’s market. We are so fortunate and grateful that our Sunday’s at this stage in life are filled with church, the farmer’s market, Jamie’s dance group, and just resting and quality time as a family. Of course that looks a little different on Grant’s Army weekends, but overall Sundays are pretty focused on our main love language.
Friday is more of our reset day. I am fortunate enough to be able to be a stay at home mom and, though I help out on the zoo’s research and conservation teams and with the Y to fill in when they need a spare lifeguard, I try to protect my Fridays as much as possible. This allows me to book any appointments that need to get done on Friday, take care of groceries and small projects, and also handle any paperwork for our family at a dedicated time. Having a child who has a medical complication involves an alarming amount of paperwork and phone calls and just all the things. A dedicated day for this means that I’m not stressing about it the rest of the week. (Thank you to Kendra Adachi from the Lazy Genius for the “Decide Once” principle.)
Here’s the overall Friday reset routine:
1. Groceries
I work on our grocery pickup order from Kroger throughout the week and then hit go on Thursday night for an early morning pick up after the school run on Friday. This covers all the staples. It’s also nice that Kroger does extra fuel points on Fridays. 😉
I also treat myself to a Trader Joe’s trip between drop off and the grocery pick up as it’s really conveniently located for us and that’s where we do all of our “fun” groceries or really perishable items like berries and salad supplies.
2. Appointments
I typically see my counselor mid-morning on Fridays or will handle another appointment for myself or our home during that time. I am a BIG advocate for therapy and having this time while the kids are in school means that I have made it a priority and won’t overbook myself.
3. Calendar and Paperwork
I’ll take care of any random paperwork, bills, and do a calendar check for the next week around lunch time. I like the feeling of knowing what’s happening and having the time set aside to handle any of the logistics as needed. It makes me feel centered.
4. Date with Grant
This doesn’t happen every week, or even most weeks if I’m being honest, but we try to have lunch together on Fridays whenever we can. If it’s not lunch it might be a walk around the block or a trip to the coffee shop down the street. The point for us is a little dedicated time for our relationship.
5. Library
This is a newer one, but after school the kids and I pop over to the library to return books and check out a new one. We’re working on our library rules and our local branch has a kids floor that’s helpful in learning how to be calm without disturbing anyone.
For overall routine, that’s pretty much it, the rest of the day is just normal daily tasks with dinner, dishes, laundry, playtime, etc. Arnis is also allowed video games on Friday evenings so there is a lot of Spyro and Mario Kart in our lives these days.
Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope that you have a wonderful day!
💛Jess
