Life on a Wednesday

 Hello,

It’s back down in the negatives today and the boys are out of school again. So for this Wednesday I’m just doing a life update. Very similar in concept to the “what’s up wednesday” posts on my favorite blogs. 🙂

Food

We have been on a journey to significantly decrease the amount of animal protein we eat. We tried going full vegetarian but unfortunately I started getting some pretty back headaches after a few weeks again and as soon as I switched back they went away. With that we eat most of our meals vegetarian and swap when we can for beefless beef or even tofu, but we still incorporate animal protein in at least 1-2 times a week.

Clothes

6am crazy hair black lounge set 🤪

Matching lounge sets. Seriously. These are my best friends these days. I wear my hiking pants or jeans with my work attire and I wear a dress to church because I like to dress up and wear my whole closet, but other than that you will find me in a lounge set. I have two for day wear (green and very light gray) and three for night (black, blue, and gray). I love this and have decided that even if this trend dies, I’m keeping it!!!

Activities

With the kids back at school most days I’m back at work volunteering at the zoo with the behavioral science team that ensures the welfare of all the individuals there. I’ve also been helping out with the feeding team collecting browse, did you know bamboo still has green leaves in the winter?!? Lastly I help out with data collection for the center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife aka CREW. It’s super fun and rewarding and I will keep doing this as long as they let me.

I’m also going to be helping out at our local Y soon to fill in for some lifeguarding shifts so that there’s no issue with having to decrease or cancel programs due to understaffing there.

Lastly I’m working on sorting all the pictures on my phone from the past six years and making annual books. The boys really love looking through family photos and so I’m trying to find a way to do this that doesn’t cost a ton. I think that building a PowerPoint as a scrapbook, printing at the library, and then using some cute binders/thrifted albums it will be a crafty and inexpensive way of doing this and getting back some storage on my phone. Unfortunately this also means that I have zero photos on my phone right now. 😳

Shows

Grant and I have started watching the new season of queer eye that came out in December but we saved to watch in January. There’s also new seasons of fixer to fabulous and home town on discovery+ that I love. Finally we’re just watching a lot of Bluey and blue planet. Bluey is great for building social stories for the boys for play and blue planet is a staple in this house. Honorable mentions include creature cases, wild Kratts, and crocodile hunter.

Books

I’ve read a few books already this year. I loved A Drop in the Ocean and did a review last week on that. I’ve also read People Pleaser by Jinger Vuolo and It Started with a Book by Camilla Isley. Reviews to come on those. Other than that it’s been mostly period romance for this girl during the gray period of the year. It’s just so nice to cozy up with a reliable happy ending story.

Jamie has also been reading with me and we’ve gone through the wild Kratts books and are working our way through the Rebel Girls series on neurodiversity and animal allies.

That’s it for today, I’ll add in pictures once I’m on my computer since that’s where everything is right now.

💛Jessie
